Dr. Marcello Pietrantoni is a perinatologist: an obstetrician/gynecologist with an additional three years' training in maternal-fetal medicine, a specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the mother and fetus. As a perinatologist for more than 17 years and a former professor, Dr. Pietrantoni has cared for patients with all sorts of pregnancy complications. He is the only perinatologist in private practice in this area, and he is board certified in OB/GYN and board certified as a Perinatologist — both by the American Academy of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine.

A pregnant woman may need perinatal care for a number of reasons. Perhaps she has a pre-existing condition, like high blood pressure, lupus erythematosus, or diabetes mellitus. Or, perhaps the pregnancy simply occurs after the age of 35. Sometimes the developing baby needs a diagnosis or medical treatment before birth. As a perinatologist, Dr. Pietrantoni can care for the medical needs of both mother and baby from the earliest stages of pregnancy through delivery.

Not only is Dr. Pietrantoni skilled and experienced in vaginal deliveries and cesarian sections, he practices perinatology using the highest quality diagnostic tools, such as 3D/4D GE Voluson E8 Ultrasound, early amniocentesis and CVS, in addition to traditional amniocentesis. Most important, Dr. Pietrantoni can counsel women who are considered high risk toward healthier pregnancies. And he works with genetic counselors for those patients who are at higher risk for genetic disorders, have family history or are particularly concerned about the health and risks( ie sickle cell anemia or cystic fibrosis) of current and future pregnancies.
